Nothing compares to that holiday scent of a fresh cut Christmas tree! If you love having a real tree, Truckee has excellent local tree lots and tree farms where you can search out that perfect size and shape…from 10 foot tall Noble Firs, to that very special “Charlie Brown” tree that fits just perfectly in the corner by your family room fireplace…the lots and farms below have your tree waiting for you to come and find it. And don’t forget, after Christmas is over Tahoe Truckee Sierra Disposal allows you to drop your clean, undecorated tree off. Check the website for this year’s dates and locations. Look for the TTSD bins and place the tree inside.
Little Bear Tree Farm: Located in Alta, CA, this farm offers 50 acres of Silver Tip/RedFir and White Fir. Their crews deliver you to and from the cutting areas and assist with netting.
Truckee Mountain Hardware: Boy Scout Troop 267 operates an annual tree lot in the hardware store parking lot, offering Silvertip/Red Fir trees. Proceeds benefit the scout troop. Please check with Truckee Mountain Hardware in November to be sure the tree lot is operating this year as planned.
Truckee Optimist Club Tree Lot: The TOC have their annual tree sale at the corner of Highway 89 and Deerfield Drive. Locally cut Red Fir and Oregon Noble Fir and Grand Fir trees will be available from the end of November through December 24th or until all trees are sold. Volunteers man the lot, and proceeds fund TOC’s scholarships, youth activities, and grants for local youth programs. Please check with the club that it is happening this year.
The Villager Nursery: The nursery at 10678 Donner Pass Road will have fresh cut and living trees available. Silvertip/Red Fir, White Fir, and High Brix Noble Fir fresh cut trees, and Colorado Spruce, Engleman Spruce, and White Spruce. Garland, wreaths, swags, and Mistletoe should also be available late November through Christmas.
Cynthia’s Christmas Trees: Offering Silvertip/Red Fir only, this farm at 4940 Star Lane, Georgetown, CA accepts paid tree reservations, has garland and wreaths for sale, and offers free boughs to customers. They also have a gift shop and refreshments. No website available, for more information call 530-333-0608.
Harris Tree Farm: Make a day of it! Located at 2640 Blair Road, Pollack Pines, CA, this family farm offers wreaths and garland for sale as well as sustainably grown cut-your-own trees. They have a bonfire on weekends, and offer refreshments and a gift shop.

Snowy Peaks Christmas Tree and Berry Farm: Located at 30100 Foresthill Road, Foresthill, CA, this cut-your-own farm offers a selection of Silvertip/Red Fir and White Fir trees. Open late November to mid-December.
U.S. Forest Service: You can purchase a Christmas Tree permit from Yuba River and Sierraville Ranger District. They’ll give you the scoop on where and how to legally and sustainably harvest your own Christmas tree.
